So... What is this Transparent Spirit Elevation Chamber anyway?

Ahhh!! The Transparent Spirit Elevation Chamber is Coming!! Woo Hoo!! ...Wait, What the heck is that?? ...You may ask. Turns out, I have the answer!

This Nature Simulation Chamber will be a part of Northern Spark on June 10th! You will find me in Lowertown!!

Follow me here as it all comes together! The theme is Climate Chaos / People Rising... Come on down and check it out... You literally have all night!

Feeling overwhelmed by climate change? Eco-Anxiety is real and you are not alone! This relatively new psychological affliction is a chronic fear of environmental doom. So what do you do if you suffer from eco-anxiety? Some people see an eco-anxiety therapist at a cost of up to $250 an hour. The therapist may recommend that you get outside and feel closer to nature, or bring nature closer to you by carrying around a rock or a piece of tree bark. I recommend you visit the Transparent Spirit Elevation Chamber @ Northern Spark!
Having fun, feeling good, restoring ourselves mentally and taking action are all things we can do to alleviate Eco-anxiety. That is exactly what you can get from just one visit to this remarkable Nature Simulation Chamber!

“Step Right Up!! Enter the Transparent Spirit Elevation Chamber! Walk through these doors into a world of wonder! Set your heart free! Be at one with the magnificent magical world of nature! See birds fly by right before your very eyes! Feel your spirit lift up above the clouds into the clear blue sky! Come one come all...”

The T.S.E.C. is a temporary, portable Public Art installation activated through Performance Art. It is specifically designed to foster community participation. The overall goal is to welcome participants with a sense of happiness, joy and belonging. This installation draws on the principal approach of simple direct interaction and playfulness with minimal production used by artists in the early 1900's from Dada to Surrealism, while further incorporating the union of Art & Technology that emerged with the Bauhaus era to create an illusory utopian vision.
The experience of the T.S.E.C. consists of two basic components:
• The room is designed to create a simulated experience in nature. When you enter the room and sit on the bench, you will be looking at a waterfall through a window, framed in by two tall evergreens. Behind the waterfall there is a reflective fringe curtain. Along with the calming sound of water falling, participants will hear the sounds of birds and wind chimes. They will also see painted cardboard bluebirds on a stick fly over the top of the window.
• The second component is actually the portion that is visible from a distance. It is what happens behind the scenes in plain view. I will be on the other side of that curtain using props to create a puppet show above the water window. Bluebirds on a stick (often associated with happiness), will be made out of cardboard and paint for this. I will fly them over the window while using bird whistles to imitate the sound of real birds. Wind chimes will also be used to add a dimension of dreaminess to the sound. A megaphone will be used to attract participants whenever it is not occupied. On each side of me will be a bubble machine, continually operating to convey playfulness and joy in welcoming participation.

Check it out... the trees are coming to life! They are 7 1/2 foot tall cardboard cut outs that are about to be water sealed and painted. I love the simple DIY nature of this project. All the charm of a carefully crafted precious creation in a temporary performance art activated utopia.

Studio Marathon Weekend!

Awake at 4:30 this morning! Excited about the latest project I am working on now: "The Transparent Spirit Elevation Chamber!" Today, I don't have to go anywhere or be anywhere but here... in my studio!

Last week all of the supplies I ordered online arrived. 120 bird whistles, the most beautiful sounding wind chime I have ever heard, 5 - 4' x 8' sheets of cardboard delivered on a Way too big truck for the job, a bubble machine and a cheerleaders megaphone that will be decked out with bluebird stickers and have balloons & ribbons attached!

The first show will be on June 10th, at Northern Spark. The next 2 months will fly by, that is for sure. So come along for the ride and see it all come together!

Whistle While You Work!

Spring Rain Studio day today. Measuring for blueprints to start construction, painting, de-constructing and recycling pieces of a previous sculpture for the waterfall frame, surrounding myself in a beautiful mess of art supplies as I drift from one creative muse to the next. Look closely in the picture below and you will see the bubble machine, megaphone, bird whistles and wind chimes all waiting for the Transparent Spirit elevation Chamber to come to life!
